SPIBER BIOFOUNDRY

50g/LYour strain,
brought to scale.

Will it hold up at commercial scale?
That's the hardest question in biomanufacturing.

From 1 L fermenters to commercial-scale facilities of over 100 kL.

SERVICE 01

High-Yield Strain Development

We optimize how your target protein is expressed, and raise its yield well above the benchmark.

Gene sequence design and strain construction

Strains we develop are normally provided under a paid license agreement. Terms are agreed case by case.

SERVICE 02

Process Development and Contract Manufacturing

From one milligram in a test tube to a manufacturing process. We develop fermentation and purification conditions with production in mind, from 1–10 L fermenters through pilot scale to commercial facilities.

Fermentation process development, scale-up and contract manufacturing

Stuck here? Here is what we do.
You want to make it, but can't express it.We redesign the gene for your target protein and build a strain that produces it at high yield. (SERVICE 01)
You have a strain. Its yield has hit a ceiling. We rework the sequence and the expression system to push yields up. (SERVICE 01)
It works in the lab. It won't scale. We refine conditions from jar fermenter studies through pilot runs. (SERVICE 02)
Pilot works. Commercial production is out of reach. We design the process for the commercial plant it will run in. (SERVICE 02)

What our strain development and culture optimization deliver

Protein titer
50 g/L

Titer of our own protein, at our commercial plant

Technologies usedGene optimization + culture condition optimization

Yield improvement success rate
90%+

OUR PLATFORM, YOUR PRODUCT

We took our own material all the way to commercial production. Now let's take your product there.

Spiber set out to make protein materials that could replace conventional ones. Getting there meant building every step of protein manufacturing ourselves: designing sequences, constructing strains, fermenting, purifying and producing at scale.

That same capability is now open to you, for whatever you set out to make, all the way to commercial scale.

So whether you bring us a protein of your own, a material with new functions or a secreted protein, we can take it on, from a small possibility in the lab to reliable supply at commercial scale.

Who you'll work with

The researchers who develop your strain and your production process are involved from the beginning.
The team you meet first stays with your project to the end.

Do I have to disclose my sequence?

Not for the first conversation. Tell us what the protein does, the scale you need and where you are stuck. We go into details once an NDA is in place.

Can you work on pharmaceuticals?

Let us know the intended use and the quality requirements. We assess what we can support project by project.

What host organisms can you use?

For strain development we work with bacteria. For contract manufacturing we accept BSL-1 microorganisms.

What is included in strain development?

To raise production of your target protein, we optimize the gene sequence, introduce it into our host strains and evaluate expression in culture. Metabolic pathway engineering is not part of the service.

What batch sizes do you offer?

Anything from research-scale trial batches to pilot and commercial production. Tell us what you need and how you make it today.

What does it cost?

Pricing depends on the scope of strain development, process development and manufacturing. After the initial consultation we send you an individual quotation.

Tell us where your project stands. We can start from there.

Describe your project in a few lines. You won't need to share a sequence.
