A sofa upholstered in 100% Brewed Protein™ fiber boa fabric debuts from Karimoku
Karimoku Furniture Inc., one of Japan’s most respected wooden furniture manufacturers — known for its unwavering dedication to wood materials, exceptional craftsmanship, and a corporate philosophy of “enriching lives through living with wood” — has created a new sofa upholstered in 100% Brewed Protein™ fiber boa fabric.
This marks the first-ever furniture product to incorporate Brewed Protein™ fibers, opening new possibilities for the material beyond its previous applications.
The project embodies a fusion of sustainable material innovation and Japanese artisanal expertise. While Brewed Protein™ fibers had not previously been used in home fabric applications, Karimoku recognized its potential and pursued not just prototyping, but full product realization.
The boa fabric used for this sofa was crafted by A-Girl’s, employing 100% Brewed Protein™ fibers. Combined with Karimoku’s masterful woodworking techniques, the sofa achieves a refined and cohesive design — highlighting new opportunities for expressing Brewed Protein™ fibers in the furniture space.
With its luxuriously soft texture and elegant presence, this sofa demonstrates how next-generation bio-based protein fibers can contribute to high-end lifestyle and interior design. We see this collaboration as an important step toward expanding Brewed Protein™ fibers into new markets and applications. The sofa was first unveiled to the public at ORGATEC TOKYO 2025, held from June 3–5, 2025, where it attracted strong interest from attendees.
