First-ever product featuring fur-trimmed hood using Brewed Protein™ fiber released
THE NORTH FACE, an outdoor brand operated by Goldwin Inc. in Japan, has launched the “(ICONS) COLLECTION”, a project that updates five iconic products from the brand’s more than 50-year history by using Brewed Protein™ fiber. The collection includes items such as an MA-1 model jacket, a hooded jacket, a crew neck sweater, and a hoodie.
Among these, the launch of the Orbit McMurdo Parka marks the first product to make use of Brewed Protein™ fiber in the fur trim of a hood.
Spiber has been working on the development of materials that mimic long-pile fur for some time, and the fabric used in this product was realized through joint development by three companies: Goldwin, Spiber, and Okada Orimono, which has built a global reputation for the development and production of high-quality eco-fur.
The development of long-pile fur fabrics is a long-term endeavor that requires more quality and physical property considerations than the development of textiles such as woven and knitted fabrics, but the three companies are making steady progress thanks to ongoing technological innovations.
Moving forward, Spiber will continue to develop and produce materials and fabrics such as eco-fur, boa, and fleece using Brewed Protein™ fiber, in collaboration with our partners.
