Spiber and Komatsu Matere to partner on application of Brewed Protein™ polymers to moisture-permeable waterproof membranes and development of new leather substitutes
Spiber is pleased to announce the start of a new partnership with Komatsu Matere, a leading fabric manufacturer involved in diverse business domains ranging from fashion to nanotech materials. Together, our two companies will explore the development of products utilizing our proprietary technologies and expertise.
This partnership will combine Spiber’s Brewed Protein™ polymers with technology from Komatsu Matere, which is well-known for its post-processing of synthetic fibers, to develop moisture-permeable waterproof membranes as well as a completely new alternative material to leather that is neither synthetic nor natural leather, but is composed of structural proteins materials.
Komatsu Matere is also planning to make an investment in Spiber, and moving forward we will work together to develop new products by leveraging the strengths of both companies to further expand the range of new applications and development areas for Brewed Protein materials.
