YUIMA NAKAZATO announces new collection at Haute Couture Week Fall/Winter 2024–2025
Spiber is pleased to announce that YUIMA NAKAZATO recently presented its Fall/Winter 2024–2025 couture collection “UNVEIL” featuring Brewed Protein™ materials at Haute Couture Week in Paris.
Following on from the previous season, this latest collection took its initial inspiration from Yuima’s experiences designing stage costumes for Idomeneo, an opera written by Mozart that explores war and relationships in ancient Greece. The collection attempted to express resistance to the major trends of the modern era by eliminating the “functionality” that is so important in both ancient and modern clothing, as represented by armor and other fighting garments, and replacing it with decorative pieces. Brewed Protein™ fiber was also used in several looks, combining delicate handwork and new techniques, and playing an important role in embodying the theme of the collection.
In addition to jackets and pantaloons in tailored fabrics made of 15% Brewed Protein™ fiber and 85% wool, carefully woven on old-fashioned looms by a Japanese manufacturer that has been in operation for over 100 years, the collection also featured delicate dresses, corsets, and belts, which were hand-knitted in YUIMA NAKAZATO’s atelier from a blend of 30% Brewed Protein™ fiber and 70% silk. The collection also included blouse looks made with YUIMA NAKAZATO’s proprietary and ever-evolving “Biosmocking” technology, which allows for the free transformation of fabric shape by applying special digital processing to Brewed Protein™ fiber. The 15% Brewed Protein™ fiber and 85% cotton fabric used in the blouses was digitally printed with pigment ink, a technique that minimizes the use of water and heat energy.
The use of Brewed Protein™ fiber throughout the collection, including the red hand-knit items, led to the creation of beautiful garments that are both strong and fragile. These items were displayed in a memorable show that further highlighted the value and possibilities of Spiber’s novel materials.
